The artist maneuvered his paternal grandparents into giving him his own Kodak Duaflex III box camera on his twelfth birthday. Because of its voracious appetite for film, its greed taught him to set up thoughtful shots. Harry knew, at sixteen, that he would be a photographer for National Geographic. His family encouraged him to become a banker, and suggested that he continue developing his artistic skills instead. He enjoyed a successful banking career, while, at the same time, he recorded through camera lenses also.
Over the decades, he has been on the cutting edge of new camera developments: color film, slides, Polaroid™ 3-D, digital, giclée and now metal prints. Currently he uses a digital Nikon D-80 single lens camera and a Nikon 1V2, Mirrorless Single Lens Camera, exhibiting and selling landscapes of up to eight feet. Influenced by the work of William Eggleston, he is at ease with color; which is one of the talents that sets him apart from many of his colleagues. Another is his decision, throughout his career, not to re-touch any of his photographs, except for some cropping. What his eye and camera saw, at that nanosecond, when the shutter opened and closed, is what you see. In 2006, he received a commission to digitally photograph Central Park during all four seasons for two years. In 2010, he received a commission to digitally photograph New York City’s Icons.
